The Prostate Net: Inaugural Fore! Informed Decisions Golf Outing Meets With Success!!

Hackensack, NJ; Thursday, October 8, 2009:

Daniel Petrylak, MD, Director, Prostate Cancer Program, Herbert Irving Cancer Center, Columbia University Medical Center in New York City led the charge, teeing-up and hitting the ceremonial first tee-shot at The Prostate Net's Inaugural Fore! Informed Decisions Golf Outing with proceeds benefiting The Prostate Net.

Dr. Dan Petrylak, Honorary Chair, tees off the event.

Sunningdale Country Club

Held at historic Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, NY, the golf outing provided an opportunity for prostate cancer survivors, spouses, friends, supporters, business professionals, community leaders and physicians to engage with fellow participants for a day of fun and relaxation while raising money to support the programs and services The Prostate Net has been providing to prostate patients and their families nationally for the past 15 years.

Following a welcome breakfast reception, participants took part in a short-game instructional clinic offered by Sunningdale Golf Professional Lonnie Knowles. A putting contest, with the winner receiving a rare framed photo of Tiger Woods from the 2000 Open in St.Andrews, Scotland, proceeded the shot-gun start.

Organizations also contributing to the days event included, Brooks Brothers, Golfsmith, Bobby Jones, Sapphire Clubs and Bradford Renaissance Portraits.

A post-round dinner reception, hosted by Sunningdale Country Club, provided golf participants an opportunity to review and bid on vintage sports memorabilia supplied by Bob Beck Sports Collectables from Livingston, NJ.

"I have attended a number of charity golf outings," commented Dr. Richard Lutes from Southbury, CT. "What made this event so enjoyable was that at the end of the day you realized you received so much; from the wonderful setting, the exceptional golf course, the prizes and a wonderful pre and post round meal, not to mention the pre-round clinic that I needed. It was truly a first class day. The Prostate Net should be commended on this event."

"We are most pleased with the success of this, our inaugural golf outing," said Virgil Simons, Founder and President of The Prostate Net. "We feel we have truly set the stage for this becoming a very successful annual event for The Prostate Net. We have received so much positive feedback regarding our plans for next years event; and with the people at Sunningdale being so nice to work with and accommodating in every way, we know this event will only grow year after year."

Silent Auction Prizes

The golf outing followed a specially designed day-long medical education symposium conducted at the NYU Kimmel Center on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, attracting patients/survivors and medical professionals from the Greater Metro Area (New York, Connecticut and New Jersey). This dual-track medical education event for patients/spouses, advocates and medical healthcare professionals featured leading edge contemporary medical information on prostate cancer delivered by nationally renowned clinicians. The golf outing format provided a relaxed environment for attendees and the program faculty from the symposium a chance to engage, further discuss the information presented and learn from each other on how to better ensure quality care and outcomes. More information about this year's medical education symposium and dates for next years symposium and golf outing will be detailed on The Prostate Net's web site: http://theprostatenet.org/Symposium.html or by calling The Prostate Net toll-free: 1.201.289.8221.

About The Prostate Net

Virgil H. Simons founded The Prostate Net in 1996 as a result of his own encounter with prostate cancer. When he was diagnosed, there was little to no readily accessible information to help prostate cancer patients and their families make informed treatment decisions. Today, men diagnosed with prostate cancer can readily access The Prostate Net's website to find information empowering them to make treatment decisions that ensure a desirable quality of life. Recognizing that people absorb information differently, The Prostate Net also features PodCasts, Web Casts and an opt-in cell cast network as well as a Toll-Free "Hotline" for those seeking one-to-one support. The website also is an educational vehicle for the public to learn about prostate cancer in general. The Prostate Net's newsletter, "In The Know," may be viewed on the website, but is available through free subscription as well as also distributed in conjunction with our other public education initiatives.

The job of raising public awareness about prostate cancer risks is far from complete. The Prostate Net seeks to expand its current initiatives through effective partnerships in disease education, community intervention and population research studies. This site has been designed to provide you with some of those tools and guidance that can be employed on a local basis to address particular issues for your community or organization. For more information on The Prostate Net, please go to: www.theprostatenet.org or call toll-free: 1.201.289.8221
